Frequently Asked Questions

Getting Started

No.

Many business owners contact me because they feel overwhelmed or aren't sure where to begin. That's perfectly okay.

We'll start where you are. Whether your books are organized, behind, or somewhere in between, my job is to understand your situation - not judge it.

That's actually one of my favorite times to help.

Starting with good bookkeeping habits from the beginning can save time, reduce stress, and help you understand your business as it grows.

Together, we'll build a bookkeeping system that works for your business and gives you confidence moving forward.

After learning about your business and reviewing your current bookkeeping, I'll go back and carefully evaluate what I've learned.

If I believe I can help, I'll prepare a proposal that includes:

  • The opportunities I identified.
  • Services I recommend.
  • A few options for working together.
  • Clear pricing.

Then we'll meet again, answer any questions you have, and give you time to decide what's best for your business.

There is never any obligation.

Even if you decide not to move forward, you'll leave with a better understanding of your bookkeeping.

Working Together

QuickBooks Online is my preferred bookkeeping software, and I'm certified in QuickBooks.

However, I have experience working with other bookkeeping software, and some programs integrate very well with QuickBooks.

We'll discuss your current bookkeeping system during your assessment and determine what makes the most sense for your business.

If you haven't purchased bookkeeping software yet, I recommend waiting until we've had that conversation.

If QuickBooks is the right fit, I can also offer discounted QuickBooks Online subscriptions through my ProAdvisor program.

If I don't believe your current software or bookkeeping needs fit my area of expertise, I'll be honest about that and help point you in the right direction.

Absolutely.

Every business owner has a different comfort level.

Some clients prefer to handle certain bookkeeping tasks themselves while others prefer that I take care of everything.

We'll decide together what works best for your business.

No matter how involved I become, you always remain in control of your money.

I cannot make deposits, withdraw funds, or write checks from your accounts.

I can prepare invoices, bills, and other bookkeeping information, but every financial transaction remains under your control.

Not necessarily.

During the first few months we'll likely communicate more often as I learn about your business and we establish good routines.

As our working relationship develops, more of the bookkeeping can be handled remotely.

Many questions can be answered through email, phone calls, screen sharing, or virtual meetings.

If you prefer in-person meetings, those are always available.

At a minimum, we'll communicate once each month.

Many businesses need more communication in the beginning, while others eventually need only occasional conversations.

My goal is to communicate as often as necessary - but never more than necessary.

Please ask.

I encourage questions.

If something doesn't make sense, we'll continue talking until it does.

You should always feel comfortable asking questions about your bookkeeping or your reports.

Businesses grow and change.

Your bookkeeping should grow and change with it.

As your business evolves, we'll adjust services, reports, and processes to continue meeting your needs.

Helping identify opportunities for improvement is part of the value I hope to provide.

Your Bookkeeping

Yes.

Many clients contact me because they've fallen behind or simply don't know where to start.

We'll begin where you are and work forward together.

Absolutely.

I don't believe in running reports simply because bookkeeping software can generate them.

Every report should provide meaningful information that helps you understand your business.

If a report isn't useful, we simply won't use it.

If additional information would help you make better decisions, we'll create reports that do.

My goal is for you to understand every report you receive.

You don't need to.

You know your business.

My job is to help you understand the financial side of it.

Everything is explained in everyday language - not accounting terminology.

That depends on what works best for you.

Some business owners enjoy staying involved.

Others prefer to hand off as much bookkeeping as possible.

Either approach is perfectly fine.

My goal is to remove work from your plate while keeping you informed and in control.

Every business is different.

After your Free Bookkeeping Assessment, I'll recommend a few ways we could work together.

Some businesses only need basic monthly bookkeeping.

Others benefit from more comprehensive support.

You'll receive clear pricing and several options so you can choose the approach that best fits your business and your budget.

Absolutely.

Although I'm based in Minnesota, I work remotely with businesses throughout the United States.

Modern bookkeeping technology allows me to securely work with clients from virtually anywhere. We can communicate through email, phone, video meetings, and screen sharing, making it easy to review reports, answer questions, and work together no matter where you're located.

Of course, if you're local and prefer to meet in person, I'm always happy to do that as well.

Getting started is easy.
